When we woke, we had breakfast at this adorable bed and breakfast and walked around the fishing village. Then, as always, I eventually forced the boys to participate in my mandatory traveling photo booth.
Once we were off of Lantau, we met up with Chera on Hong Kong Island. Yune did some solo exploration while Tyler, Chera, and I joined Chera's friend for an abandoned adventure! In America, I used to seek out abandoned places wherever I could, but I haven't found any since living in Asia! Needless to say, I was really, really excited to explore Ma Wan, a recently evicted fishing village.
While the village may be vacant, Chera's friend Joe told us that one family comes every weekend to take care of the Tin Hau temple, which honors Mazu, the goddess believed to protect fishermen and sailors.
In 2011, the Hong Kong government evicted the residents from the fishing village and built housing up the hill from their old homes. From my understanding, the following photo shows two types of housing - the buildings in the front are currently the villagers' homes, and the buildings in the back are currently mostly expats' homes.
The rest of the trip, we basically just drank dark beer and admired Ty in his fancy Ray Bans.
We'll be back someday, hopefully, Hong Kong ...
